Perception Data: How to Get It & Use It January 29, 2008

Planning to administer a survey takes many factors into consideration including the construct of interest, survey formats and sampling. This workshop introduces participants to these concepts and other key ideas as a foundation for a survey design project. Basic data analysis will be conducted via Excel, and electronic surveys will be discussed. After this workshop, participants will be able to design different survey items around a common construct, know strategies for reducing bias, will have the skills to organize the data, and will be able to organize the data analysis needs of their project.

 
Statistics & Stuff for Teachers

(Using Blackboard)

January - June own workstation

This five session course offered through Blackboard provides instructional staff with a statistics refresher, applying concepts to the classroom.  Participants also will review assessment and psychometric issues as they relate to the classroom. At the end of this course, teachers will understand how to use statistics to enhance classroom instruction and management and how to embark on a research project. The course will take approximately 15 hours to complete.

SPSS Training: Basic Statistical Analysis Using SPSS Data is TBA - email if interested Gick Road

This workshop is designed for those with limited experience with SPSS who would like to learn how to use the program for basic statistical analyses. Topics will include recoding variables, opening various types of data files, basic data summaries, and graphing. Familiarity with basic statistics is helpful, but not required. Limited to 12 participants per session.

 
SPSS Training: Advanced Statistical Analysis Using SPSS Date is TBA - email if interested Gick Road

This workshop is designed to assist participants in using SPSS to organize and analyze data. Topics will include cluster analysis, factor analysis, MANOVA, and repeated measures MANOVA. Familiarity with basic statistics is required; familiarity with these topics in advance is recommended. Limited to 12 participants per session.

IN-DISTRICT OPPORTUNITIES
Is Your Iceberg Melting? In District  
If you feel that in this 21st Century global economy your school and its structures are becoming irrelevant, then your iceberg is melting! Using the framework provided through Kotter and Rathgeber’s penguin fable, this workshop will guide your district or building team through the eight steps needed for successful organizational change. Change is never easy, but with these tools, great results are right around the next iceberg! Prerequisite: Participants must read the book, Our Iceberg is Melting, prior to the workshop.
 
Formative Assessment Development - Introduction to Rubrics In District  

This interactive workshop is designed to assist teachers in developing quality rubrics as well as using rubric results appropriately in the classroom. Topics include purpose of rubrics, various rubric designs, analysis of rubric data, and use of results for student feedback and grading purposes. Limited to 20 people.

 
Formative Assessment Development - Multiple Choice Items In District  

This introductory workshop is designed to assist teachers in developing quality multiple choice items as well as using multiple choice test results appropriately in the classroom. Topics include purpose of using multiple choice items, proper design of multiple choice items, analysis of item performance, and use of results for instructional decision-making. Limited to 20 people.

 
Assessment Alignment In District  

Are you able to determine whether or not students are proficient in the NYS Learning Standards without using a standardized test? Are your assessments aligned? How do you know? This workshop will assist teachers in aligning existing assessments and locating appropriate new assessments. Participants will need to bring an existing assessment or test with them to the workshop.
