Grants Address the Needs of Children
American
Legion Child Welfare Foundation
The mission of the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation is to provide
nonprofit organizations with a means to educate the public about the needs of
children across the United States. The Foundation supports organizations that
contribute to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual welfare of children
through the dissemination of knowledge about new and innovative programs
designed to benefit youth; or through the dissemination of knowledge already
possessed by well-established organizations. Grant requests should have the
potential of helping American children in a broad geographic area (more than one
state). Application forms must be requested from the Foundation’s Executive
Secretary by mail or via the Foundation's email contact form by July 1. The
deadline for submitting application forms is July 15, 2008. Specific application
procedures are available on the website listed above.
Fellowships for Social Entrepreneurs
Draper Richards Foundation
The Draper Richards Foundation provides selected social entrepreneurs
with funding to start new nonprofit organizations through the Draper Richards
Fellowships. Up to six fellowships are awarded annually for projects which
demonstrate innovative ways to solve existing social problems. Funded projects,
which must have national or global reach, can address a variety of public
service areas. Experienced, dedicated social entrepreneurs with a developed idea
for a nonprofit organization in the United States are eligible to apply for up
to $100,000 annually for three years. Brief proposals are accepted throughout
the year. Visit the website listed above for detailed proposal development
information.
Grants to Protect the World’s Oceans
Ocean Fund
The Ocean Fund, a program of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity
Cruises, was established to support marine conservation organizations in
preserving the ecosystems of the world's oceans. The Fund provides grants to
nonprofit organizations to facilitate the following (in order of priority):
conservation, research, and education. The Fund is especially interested in
innovative new approaches and in projects that support strategic partnering.
Well-organized and well-established organizations with a solid track record are
encouraged to apply. The Fund invites interested organizations to submit a one-
to two-page letter of interest about the scope and cost of the project by June
30, 2008. Guidelines for developing letters of inquiry and further information
about the application process are available on the website above.
Public Education Equity Programs Funded
Norman
Foundation
The Norman Foundation supports efforts that strengthen the ability of
communities throughout the United States to determine their own economic,
environmental, and social well-being, and that help people control those forces
that affect their lives. One of the Foundation’s funding priorities is to
promote civil rights by fighting discrimination and working for equity. The
current focus for civil rights grantmaking is public education equity, with an
emphasis on parent and youth organizing. Priority consideration is given to
nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of under $1 million. Letters of
inquiry for civil rights grant requests are due July 1, 2008. Instructions for
submitting letters of inquiry by fax, email, or regular mail are available on
the website listed above.
