Who
We Serve
The
BEARS program provides intervention services for young
children who are classified with autism or related
disorders. We offer a full day, small group, staff enriched
program for students in the WSWHE BOCES region. Classroom
team training consists of up-to-date behavioral management
and specialized educational techniques.
The
Program
The
classroom is academically oriented, with specific daily
routines that remain constant. Instructional programs are
planned to meet student needs and are aligned with the New
York State Learning Standards. Classroom activities are
structured similar to those of a typical elementary school
class, encompassing circle/calendar time, storytime and play
(free and structured). Special emphasis is places on
behaviors, attention span, communication, language and motor
skill. Discrete trial teaching is a major emphasis of the
program, BEARS also includes structured group participation
involving fine and gross motor exercises to increase
language development. Our intensive, structured setting
promotes an environment where the children are learning to
learn. An individual educational plan (IEP) is prepared for
each student and implemented through classroom
participation.
