AIE and EE Services enable school districts to receive state financial aid toward a portion of the cost of programs whenever a school….

  • Goes on a field trip to a museum or theatre
  • Plans an assembly
  • Invites an author, theatre companies, historian or scientist for a classroom visit
  • Conducts a student or teacher workshop or residency.

State-aidable AIE and EE services are designed to strengthen and support learning in all areas of the curriculum. Arts and enrichment activities are used as tools by schools to meet a vast array of goals, including, but not limited to:

  • Delivering meaningful and memorable learning experiences;
  • Improving test scores and academic achievement;
  • Motivating students AND teachers;
  • Expanding students’ viewpoints and ways of looking at the world; lending understanding and perspective on different cultures, styles and value systems;
  • Increasing students’ critical and creative thinking skills.

How does BOCES help you establish a strong Arts In Education program?

BOCES:

  • Provides resources for schools to find, evaluate and hire presenters;
  • Sets up ways for schools to share information with each other, to save money through group bookings, and learn about effective and successful AIE and EE programs and practices from each other;
  • Contracts with presenters and pays them, taking care of fingerprinting and NYS Teacher’s Retirement System deductions when necessary, reducing paperwork and liability for the school district;
  • Gives schools updates from the state education department, regional arts advocacy groups, funding sources, and professional development opportunities.

BOCES specific services include:

    • Online directory lists over 1000 providers;
    • Artists showcases in Albany and locally so schools can meet and see presenters in action;
    • Bi-annual meetings with all schools in our region to share information;
    • List serv e-mail community with all schools in our region to share information;
    • AIE Updates--Monthly hard copy mailings;
      e-mailed and faxed newsletter
    • Training for schools and parents on successful arts and enrichment programming

In order to be eligible for aid, arts in education programs must address NYS Learning Standards for the Arts. Author visits are also eligible. Exploratory Enrichment programs address learning standards in the other curriculum areas, and require two districts to share a program. For specific guidelines on program requirements, please call our office or see the AIE/EE liaison-training handbook.
