Instructional Technology
Information Central

WSWHE BOCES has developed a successful program to loan laptop computers to teachers and related service providers so that these professionals can continue curriculum development, program creation, and other reporting requirements off-site.  These machines are intended to be used for BOCES related activities only, and not for personal or personal business use.  These laptops are relatively current machines (Pentium or Pentium II processors running at speeds from 100MHz to 333MHz), which are available to be borrowed on a short-term basis (4 weeks or less).  If for some reason a staff member needs additional loan time, longer than four weeks, the request must be accompanied by a rationale for the extended borrowing period, and approval will be given on a case-by-case basis.  The current program inventory consists of twenty-three (23) Windows compatible laptops and one Macintosh PowerBook.  The WSWHE BOCES loaner laptop program is housed at Gick Road, and is implemented by the Coordinator for BOCES Technology.  The laptops operate with the Microsoft Windows 98 or NT operating systems, and have Microsoft Office 2000 professional or Microsoft Office 97 professional installed.  This installation includes Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.  Other software may be installed if necessary.  This software must be indicated in the request to borrow a laptop.  In addition, no applications may be downloaded from the Internet without prior approval.  These applications have been known to corrupt the operating systems of the machines and can potentially contain viruses.

If you need to borrow a laptop, please follow these steps:

  • Fill out the WSWHE BOCES Loaner Laptop Form below.  Please include a description of why you need the laptop, the length of time you wish to borrow the equipment, and any additional software you wish to have installed.  Please understand that any documents or applications left on the hard drive of the laptop will be deleted upon return of the laptop to the loaner program.  Hit the "submit form" button when finished.
  • The Office of Instructional Technology will reply in a timely fashion, indicating the availability of a laptop as well as the dates that you must pick up and return the equipment.  The pick-up point will be the BOCES Gick Road facility. When picking up the laptop, you will be given the machine, all necessary cabling and equipment documentation.  Please note that any documents left on the hard drive of this machine are the property of WSWHE BOCES.
  • When returning the machine, you will need to sign the form assuring that the machine is in the same working order it was in when it was borrowed.  If a machine is returned damaged or in some other way malfunctioning, the borrower must provide explanation of the problems that have occurred.  Any borrower showing negligence to the machines will no longer be able to participate in the program.
