Practical Nursing

Making the decision to return to school can be an overwhelming. But an investment in a new career can be very rewarding. To help you achieve your future goal of becoming a Practical Nurse, please continue reading about the WSWHE BOCES admission process.

To apply to the Adult Practical Nursing program, please submit the listed documentation by June 15, 2018 for the 2018-19 Programs: 

  1. A completed application (See Below - Related Files)
    Must include three (3) Professional Reference Letters**
  2. Your “official” High School Transcript, or a copy of your GED or TASC***
  3. A $25.00 non-refundable Application Fee, Payable to: WSWHE BOCES*****

**Three professional character references are required (See Application Packet). Please choose references who can speak to your ability to perform academically and skillfully (your employer, supervisor, former teachers, etc.). References from family members, friends or co-workers will not be accepted. Give one to each person you choose as a reference. Be sure your name is on it. Give each person a stamped envelope with the address of the Financial Aid Office on it. Reference letters will not be accepted unless they are delivered via US mail. (See Address – Page 3)

***The WSWHE BOCES must receive your “official” high school transcript. Transcripts must be sent directly from your high school to the Financial Aid Office. Transcripts will not be accepted as “official” unless they are delivered via US mail. (See Address – Page 3)

*****The WSWHE BOCES will accept cash, check, money order, VISA or MasterCard.

Who can be admitted to the Adult Practical Nursing Program?

TEAS

If you have not done so, go to www.atitesting.com to register for the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills (Pre-admission) Examination. 

The four page TEAS Results Transcript must be sent to WSWHE BOCES.

Students must achieve a score of 58% or higher in Reading and Math and at least 41.3% in Science or 49% in English Language usage to be eligible for enrollment in the PN program.


Interviews

After passing the TEAS Exam and submitting your completed PN Application, you must attend an interview with the Adult PN Supervisor. Please prepare and dress as you would for an employment interview. All interviews are conducted at Southern Adirondack Education Center and may include up to 4 members of the PN program.


Acceptance

Students accepted to the PN Program will be notified by mail by June 30. To reserve placement in the PN Program, please submit a $100.00 non-refundable fee to the PN Admissions Office. Please make check payable to: WSWHE BOCES. (See Address – Page 3).  All accepted students will require medical clearance,  BLS CPR for Health Care providers, and additional documents which will be provided upon acceptance.


Financial Aid

Federal Financial Aid is available to students entering the PN Program in the form of Pell, SEOG and Direct Federal Student Loans. Students must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be eligible for federal aid. Students interested in applying for federal direct student loans must complete, on line, Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note.

Textbooks and Supplies

To be prepared and ready for class, it is recommended that you purchase your textbooks and supplies no later than August 15th.
