The Language and Culture Resource Center invites Languages Other Than English (LOTE) teachers to build a community of educators dedicated to increasing the language proficiency, language diversity, and cultural awareness of our students. Here are some ways you can get involved:
Maintain your language abilities and knowledge of culture by meeting with colleagues to discuss topics such as novels, movies, and current events. A native speaker will lead the discussion.
A weekend filled with target language workshops that focus on cultural topics can be organized for groups of LOTE teachers.
Professional Development Lectures and Workshops
Professional development opportunities for LOTE teachers can be organized for districts.
Here are some ways you can internationalize your curriculum:
Enrich your school by participating in a teacher exchange program. Contact us to find out about some of the available opportunities.
Multi-lingual and multi-cultural resources such as culture boxes are available through School Library Services. These materials can be borrowed through the Language and Culture Resource Center Catalog.
A Web-based “Directory of Arts in Education” is available to participants in the Arts-in-Ed service. Teachers can search this directory by topic and choose presenters that support their language and culture initiatives. These programs are eligible for BOCES Aid.
