Taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) or the School College Ability Test (SCAT) is the first step in the process for admission to the Young Scholars program.
BOCES provides evaluation services to districts to assess or determine its population of gifted and talented students. We will work with your district to schedule CogAT or SCAT tests, provide a tester and all necessary materials, score the tests, and convey test results to the district.
Each school district sets its own criteria for admission to the Young Scholars and other enrichment programs.
Parents who wish to have their children take the CogAT or SCAT should work with their school district; the district will then coordinate with BOCES.
