The Young Scholars program meets the unique intellectual, social, and emotional needs of high ability students in grades 4-8 who have reasoning skills in the top 1% or 2% of students in their age group nationwide (as measured by the Cognitive Abilities Test - CogAT).
The program presents literature, writing, humanities, math, and science at a pace and level of instruction matched to students' abilities. The purpose is to strengthen critical thinking skills and nurture creative, autonomous thought.
There are currently three different Young Scholars models in place at area school sites that vary depending on student ages, strengths, and location:
Districts that purchase the Young Scholars program receive evaluation, testing, supervision, and teaching services for students meeting the standards of this highly selective and advanced program. Districts that participate in the Gifted and Talented Resource Center receive a discount on the Young Scholars Program.
