Automotive Technology Students Competed at National Competition
Friday, March 20, 2015
Congratulations to two Automotive Technology students at the F. Donald Myers Education Center, Jordan Healey of Waterford-Halfmoon and Devin Pickens of Hadley-Luzerne, who competed in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City on April 7-8 at the New York International Auto Show.
Their instructor John Zabielski said, "This is a prestigious event and will absolutely assist the students in future endeavors whether they decide to continue their education or enter the workforce."
The students captured first place at the annual Regional High School Automotive Technology Competition in January at Hudson Valley Community College. They were judged on six workstations that tested their skills and technical knowledge necessary to diagnose and repair various mechanical and electrical problems under a set time limit.
The top prizes included scholarships to Hudson Valley Community College and the University of Northwest Ohio, a $100 cash prize and several donations from local businesses.
The event was sponsored by the Eastern New York Coalition of Automotive Retailers Association (ENYCAR), a trade association representing new car dealers in 13 counties in New York State.
