Peer Leader Collaboration Day at Sanford Street Teaching and Learning Center
Monday, June 08, 2015
Several students from the Southern Adirondack and F. Donald Myers Education Centers who had participated in a three-day Peer Leadership training session in the fall through the Anti-Defamation League utilized their newly-learned skills recently while working with students at Sanford Street Teaching and Learning Center.
The Peer Leaders worked together in the morning to get re-acquainted and collaborate on creating anti-bullying video clips. In the afternoon, the Peer Leaders helped the younger Sanford Street students with their monthly Boys Town activity. Some students helped make May Day baskets while others assisted with a basketball activity in the gym.
SAEC’s Dean of Students Linda Beck-Fragale said, “It was an amazingly positive day for our Peer Leaders and the Sanford Street TLC students. We are hoping it is partnership that we can expand on next year.”
"The students were very excited and motivated in the fall training to improve cultures at the various BOCES centers through student-driven and designed activities. They were nervous about how they would interact with our younger students at Sanford Street. The teens' comments afterward demonstrated how positive the experience was for them. This was evident by their discussions developing activities and schedules for next year to expand their roles as Peer Leaders," add Myers Center Dean of Students Ruth Shippee.
