The Importance of Registering to Vote
Wednesday, September 30, 2015
“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves – and the only way they could do this is by not voting,” said President Franklin D. Roosevelt in a radio address from the White House on October 5, 1944.
SkillsUSA students held a Voter Registration Day on October 2 at the Southern Adirondack Education Center.
Signs explaining the Top 10 reasons why one should vote surrounded the SkillsUSA voter registration table. For even more incentive, students received a certificate for a free cookie from the FDL marketplace, which is run by the culinary students, and an eagle pin when they registered.
When asked what the importance of registering to vote is, Graphic and Visual Communications student Colin Clark from Lake George School said, “If you don’t do anything, you can’t control the government. It’s your right as a citizen. You might as well use it.”
