Pulling Together to Help Feed the Community
Tuesday, November 24, 2015
Thanks to a collaborative effort at the F. Donald Myers Education Center, many families in the Saratoga community will have food for the holidays.
For the tenth year in a row, students in the Culinary Key Club assisted the Wilton/Saratoga Kiwanis with assembling "Operation Turkey Baskets." Several tables filled with stuffing, rolls, potatoes, canned vegetables, turkeys, and dessert lined the hallway at the Myers Center.
Culinary and Special Education students in Jolie O’Brien’s class along with Kiwanis volunteers formed an assembly line and filled a bag with each item. The Kiwanis Club has a list of community organizations that they deliver the food baskets to, who in turn deliver them to families in need of assistance. Chef Instructor Maureen Clancy said, “We were able to bag up 80 dinner bags and have them picked up for delivery in 45 minutes. That’s a record-breaking time!”
