Last Day for Holiday Give and Take
Tuesday, December 22, 2015
You might get a glimpse of Santa when you visit Joel Hoskins' A5 classroom. It's looking very festive and cozy as it's decorated for the holidays and packed full of donated goods.
For the second year, SkillsUSA and Key Club members at the Southern Adirondack Education Center (SAEC) have coordinated a Holiday Give and Take where students can shop for FREE until December 23 in Mr. Hoskins Room.
Students can choose from a wide array of donated items from students and staff that include books and DVDs to ties, mittens and clothing. There's a present-wrapping center and refreshments are available.
In addition to Mr. Hoskins teaching Employment Training and Transition and the Service Level Auto programs in his classroom, the Gap store is located there. It's a venture he began 25 years ago.
Staffed by SkillsUSA students, the Gap store serves the student body on the SAEC campus. “It’s a place for kids to come for everything from prom dresses, suits, shoes, sneakers, jackets, boots, and jeans to soap, deodorant, and razors,” said Mr. Hoskins.
“On average, we probably see a student come to the store at least twice a day,” said Mr. Hoskins. “In the winter, we see a lot of students who don’t have jackets or boots. We are supported by the community and staff members.”
