CTE Students Celebrate National Donut Day
Thursday, June 01, 2017
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Culinary Arts students have been prepping for National Donut Day which takes place June 2. Chef Maureen Clancy and members of the Key Club at the F. Donald Myers Education Center made more than 15 dozen donuts to donate to the Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Lieutenant Bree Barker of Saratoga Springs picked up the donuts and will be giving them to local veterans on National Donut Day, June 2.
“The students like to give back to their community. They really enjoy doing something for our service members, especially in honor of Memorial Day,” said Chef Maureen Clancy.
The Salvation Army started National Donut Day during the Great Depression as a way to raise funds and bring awareness for The Salvation Army’s social service programs. National Donut Day commemorates the “donut lassies,” female Salvation Army volunteers who provided writing supplies, stamps, clothes-mending and home-cooked meals and of course, donuts, for soldiers on the front lines.
