Congratulations to SAEC's CTE Class of 2017
Tuesday, June 20, 2017
“You were the driving force, not only mentors, but guiding lights,” said Allison Vrooman of Fort Ann to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) faculty at the Southern Adirondack Education Center’s Completion and Award Ceremony on June 16 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Allison, in the Health Occupations program, was the student speaker at the ceremony where she received her completion certificate along with 264 other CTE completers in the Class of 2017.
In her address, Allison touched on all the programs students completed at SAEC and related how each program contributes to all of our daily lives.
She quoted Henry David Thoreau who once said, “if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with success.”
In closing, Allison commended her fellow students for their hard work and dedication. While they may have different plans and career choices, whether they decide to continue their education, enter the workforce, or join the military, Allison said she was confident that these students “will show continuous strength and commitment.”
CTE Executive Principal Turina Parker spoke about how Career and Technical Education students in our region and state compete in SkillsUSA and FFA competitions, which are designed to test the skills of participants in specific career areas. This year four CTE students are competing at the national SkillsUSA competition held in Louisville, Kentucky based on their performance in state competitions. And a first place team of four students will be travelling to Indianapolis, Indiana in October for the national FFA Conference. This high level of performance effectively makes each of these students the besti n New York state.
District Superintendent James Dexter complimented the Class of 2017 on their perseverance and tenacity, and for taking a chance at something different. He thanked parents for their support. And concluded by saying, “thank you for sending us such great kids. Your son or daughter is employable now.”
