Exceptional Learners Division Unveiled
Thursday, September 14, 2017
At the Opening Day presentation for the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES on September 5, staff announced that the Special Education division is being renamed the Exceptional Learners Division. They have also created a new tag line for the program, “empowering students through education.”
Director of Instructional Programs Nancy DeStefano explained that this change “acknowledges that learners have different abilities and take different paths towards their future. WSWHE BOCES supports that journey through core academics and individually tailored instruction, setting students up for success.”
The division’s new logo reflects a feeling of hope and opportunity. WSWHE BOCES is in the process of updating all of the Exceptional Learners informational materials and web page. As the new school year begins, parents and school administrators will soon have many new resources available at their fingertips.
District Superintendent of Schools James Dexter said, “we have decided to rebrand the Special Education division to show the value of our programs, how we put students first, let parents know what their options are, and also to highlight our dedicated and talented staff.”
“We hope to continue to change perceptions, just as we’ve done through our rebranding efforts in our Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Employment Training for Adults (ETA) divisions,” Dexter said.
