PTECH Celebrates Manufacturing Day
Tuesday, October 10, 2017
On October 6, 2017 about 200 eighth, ninth and tenth grade Southern Adirondack PTECH students from Saratoga Springs, South Glens Falls, Queensbury and Hudson Falls attended a day of activities at SUNY Adirondack in honor of Manufacturing Day, which is a nationwide celebration of modern manufacturing that aims to inspire future manufacturers.
Sean O’Brien, Director of Global Sales & Marketing at Hollingsworth & Vose, gave a keynote address. Students also participated in an interactive tabling event with hands-on activities and demonstrations and toured the facilities of five manufacturers. The day concluded with a panel discussion with student ambassadors and employer representatives, moderated by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
The event was the result of the STEM Roundtable—a group of representatives from local STEM businesses, various SUNY Adirondack faculty and staff and WSWHE BOCES, and is supported by the SUNY Adirondack Foundation and Irving Consumer Products, Inc. Participating companies include: Cambridge Valley Machining, Castle Power Solutions, Espey Manufacturing, Finch Paper, Fort Miller Group, Hollingsworth & Vose, Irving Tissue, JUST Water, Rasp Inc. and SheetLabels.com.
Student Ambassadors from the Early College Career Academy participate in the panel.
