Two STEP Students Attain Merit Status
Friday, June 01, 2018
As the 2017-2018 school year is wrapping up, so is the STEP program. Many students have taken the opportunities that the program gave them and run with it. Some have set personal goals to improve their skills as much as they can. Two ninth graders, Chris Steady and Damien Grabowski planned and held a dance for their peers as their merit project.
Damien Grabowksi from Queensbury wanted this achievement. Damien wanted to show himself that he could achieve a goal, to reach Merit level to prove to himself and others that he can do what he thought he could not. He showed that he could do good work in his classes and community again. Accomplishing this goal made him happy.
Chris Steady of North Warren also felt that showing himself and others that he could achieve the behavior and academic success needed to demonstrate that he was a merit student was important. He made this challenge to himself and his parents when he started in STEP. It was important to Chris that he show himself he could accomplish a goal he sets for himself in life. Both Chris and Damien would have liked another year in the STEP program but hope the skills that they learned and were demonstrated by achieving the highest goal of becoming a Merit student will serve them well in the future.
