Myers Exceptional Learners Graduates Thirteen
Tuesday, June 12, 2018
On June 12th students in the Exceptional Learners Division Class of 2018 from the F. Donald Myers Education Center recieved their completion certificates at the Annual Completion and Awards Ceremony held at the Gick Road Conference Center.
Principal Shawn Hunziker told students "it's ironic that in the time you spent with us we have been encouraging you to take risks, challenge yourself, persevere, and form you own education opinions as an individual. Yet, today we tell you to dress alike in 15th century garb! Why do we ask you to dress in cap and gown? It's because it is symbolic of an educated person. It is actually that common garb that sets you apart from others and defines your individuality."
The evening's keynote speaker was Dr. Turina Parker, Executive Principal WSWHE BOCES. She gave the students advice about making good decisions, overcoming challenges, and staying true to themselves. She told them, "you should feel excited, proud, and motivated by your accomplishments. Hold on to that feeling. That is the feeling that will get you through tough times, allow you to embrace challenges and stamp out negative thoughts."
Ruth Shippee, the Southern Adirondack BOCES Employees Association (SABEA) President, highlighted students' impact during their time at Myers as she presented the scholarships and awards.
District Superintendent James Dexter and President of the Board of Education John Rieger along with Board of Education Vice President Linda King and Board Member David Petruska presented completion certificates to the students.
