New Merit Student at Southern Adirondack Education Center

Thursday, December 13, 2018

Kody organizing the campus GAP

Kody Garrow of the Greenwich Central School District is the newest Merit student at the Southern Adirondack Education Center. Kody is an 8th grader in the Middle School Therapeutic Support Program.  He entered Washington Street Teaching and Learning Center last year and fast tracked, or "Blue Lighted", his way from Daily to Progress in the Boys Town system, demonstrating his ability to use positive social skills to earn enough points to change levels.

The Boy's Town Specialized Classroom Management Model is a research based program used to teach, shape and reinforce appropriate behaviors. It uses points to help to empower the students to take ownership of their actions, advocate for themselves and learn appropriate ways to express themselves when feeling frustrated. It is used throughout the Exceptional Learners Division.

This year, as a student in Mrs. Stancampiano's class, Kody demonstrated he was ready to go to Merit level. After conferencing with staff, his project was to clean and organize the campus GAP, a place where students can go to get clothes for free. Kody enjoyed his project and plans to keep checking in at the GAP to help keep it neat and organized.
