Chiropractor Makes Big Impact on ELD Students
Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Exceptional Learners Division (ELD) students in Christine Benware’s middle school science class at the F. Donald Myers Education had a visit from Dr. Dermot Jinks, a chiropractor who came to talk to the students about the nervous and skeletal systems on March 22. Dr. Jinks is a member of the AAC Family Wellness Center in Schuylerville.
Dr. Jinks explained to the students that sickness is when the body does not do what it is supposed to do. He told students that the neural system acts as an “information superhighway.” Billions of bits of information travel to the brain. Sometimes there can be interference in the neural system. If one or more bones in the spinal column move out of its proper position stress may be placed on the body’s neural system. This creates an interference within the body’s communications system.
Poor posture, repetitive injuries, trauma and improperly performed activities place the muscles, bones and ligaments in compromising positions.
Dr. Jinks showed the students some exercises they can do with their neck to strengthen their spine and maintain good spinal health. He also spoke about the importance of a nutritious diet, hydration and regular exercise. But sometimes that is not enough. Chiropractors can help people by making adjustments to the spine and getting people back on track to a healthy life.
The students learned alot from the presentation and said they would practice the good advice!
