Celebrating Area Students’ Contributions To The 33rd Talent Unlimited Literary Arts Journal
Monday, May 06, 2019
On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, NY, our Enrichment Resource Center will be hosting a Recognition Ceremony for 90 students from 16 area school districts whose work was selected to be published in the 33rd annual BOCES Talent Unlimited Literary Arts Journal.
Following a reception and display of original artwork and written pieces, the students will be addressed by Johannah Davies (JD) Spero’s, full-time novelist and author of Catcher’s Keeper. Following Ms. Spero’s, a sampling of writings will be read by student authors. The works chosen are published in a journal that will be presented to the students and their teachers during the recognition ceremony.
These literary and art pieces are chosen through a juried process by nine experts in their related fields. While the journal must be limited in the number of pieces represented, many of the entries were complimented by the judges for their creativity.
Of the 206 visual works of art, 45 pieces were chosen for publication and one design was chosen to be the cover of the journal. In addition, 45 written works were chosen from 89 submissions.
New this year was involvement from the Early College Career Academy (ECCA) New Media class. Once the pieces were accepted, the Enrichment Resource Center worked with the senior class under the instruction of Chad Munro to create the journal. The New Media class took the high-resolution pictures and scans of the artwork, designs the layout of the journal, and worked together to create the final journal. They revamped last years design by adding creative page numbers, an inside cover graphic, participating district logo page, art icons, watermarks and the index. The New Media class created a new logo for Talent Unlimited as well.
"I would like to say that working with the New Media class was a pleasure and I am very impressed with their creative ideas and technical skill," said Carrie Van Tassel, Enrichment Resource Center program manager. "The journal looks fantastic!"
All parents, teachers, and any interested school personnel are cordially invited to attend the May 15 event.
