Senator Betty Little Visits WSWHE BOCES Programs
Friday, November 01, 2019
Senator Betty Little toured Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Early College Career Academy (ECCA) programs on November 1. The Senator appropriated $50,000 in Bullet Aid in 2018 for CTE programs. Bullet Aid benefits pre-k to twelfth grade education programs and nonprofits. CTE consulting committees made up of industry experts recommended the items to be purchased that would give CTE students the most up-to-date technology and equipment for the real-world jobs they are pursuing.
When asked about CTE and the aid Senator Little was able to help with she said, “it’s very beneficial for these programs to have the right equipment and to encourage kids to be in the program and know that they are ready to leave. When they leave the program they are going to have the kind of equipment that’s in the workplace. I’m very pleased that we were able to do that.”
The Senator spent her time visiting the CTE programs for heavy equipment, health occupations, automotive technology and welding to learn how the aid is benefiting students, see what the aid was able to provide the classes and how it will help students and their futures. WSWHE BOCES is grateful for the Senator’s assistance. Little was also able to tour the labs of the ECCA program to see how they have expanded over the past few years and how area students earn college credit while in high school through the cooperative agreement with SUNY Adirondack.
After the tour, Senator Little noted how these courses, the equipment they are able to use and the information they learn in the programs, “will be valuable to [the students] forever.”
