Automotive Technology Students Earn Top Spots in Automotive Competition
Thursday, February 05, 2015
Congratulations to the Automotive Technology students from the F. Donald Myers Education Center and the Southern Adirondack Education Center who competed in the annual Regional High School Automotive Technology Competition that was held on January 16 at Hudson Valley Community College. The event was sponsored by the Eastern New York Coalition of Automotive Retailers Association (ENYCAR), a trade association representing new car dealers in thirteen counties in New York State.
Students were judged on six workstations that tested their skills and technical knowledge necessary to diagnose and repair various mechanical and electrical problems under a set time limit.
The top prizes, which included scholarships to Hudson Valley Community College and the University of Northwest Ohio, a $100 cash prize and several donations from local businesses were awarded to Jordan Healy of Waterford and Devin Pickens of Hadley Luzerne, who are enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at the Myers Center. Both students, along with their instructor John Zabielski, are now eligible to compete in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City on April 7-8 at the New York International Auto Show.
SAEC’s Automotive Technology students Brandon Tyrel from Johnsburg and Dan Pitts from Whitehall finished third in the competition. Both students were awarded $3000 scholarships from Northwestern Ohio University.
