A Back-to-School Kick-Off was held on September 11 at the Southern Adirondack Education Center for students in the Special Education and STEP programs.
Students participating in the event were from the BOCES Employability Skills Training (BEST), Skills, Training and Education Program (STEP), Life Skills and Works Skills Training (WST).
Students enjoyed a pizza luncheon followed by several fun Friday activities that included a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors Tag, Relay Race, Capture the Flag and then a staff against students water balloon war.
Before the students took to the playing field, the new physical education teacher Jessica Nevins, re-enforced the Boys Town skill of sportsmanship, which includes playing fair according to the rules, avoiding fights, no criticizing, accept winning without bragging, accept losing without pouting and to thank the other players after the competition.
Assistant Principal of the STEP program, Linda Beck-Fragale said, “We want to set a positive tone for the 2015-2016 school year. All of the staff here at SAEC prioritize building rapport with our students. We appreciate having opportunities such as this one to help the students get to know one another, see staff as adults they can approach and work on their pro-social skills. It was a very fun day!”
