Students from the Special Education program enjoyed delicious turkey with all the fixings and dessert at an early Thanksgiving feast on November 20, thanks to the Class of 2016 at Saratoga Central Catholic School (SCC).
Students from the Sanford Street Teaching and Learning Center in Glens Falls and the BEARS (BOCES Educating Children with Autism and Related Disabilities) program at the F. Donald Myers Education Center in Saratoga Springs attended the event. In addition to the feast, the SCC choir sang and seniors also offered a variety of activities for students from coloring, arts & crafts, making bracelets and face painting.
Debra McHale, theology teacher at SCC, said this was her eighth year coordinating the annual Thanksgiving luncheon at St. Peter’s Parish with the senior class, but thought the event had been taking place for 16 years.
Saratoga Central High School senior Bridget Naughton explained that the luncheon is one of two class community service projects that the senior class does. Last year, her class coordinated the prom for the Special Education students from WSWHE BOCES. “The BOCES prom was more fun than my own prom,” she added.
