Michael Spoerl, a senior in the Southern Adirondack Education Center’s health occupations program, won the Adirondack Area School Boards Association’s Community Service Award.
The $300 scholarship, presented to Michael at a recent dinner at the Queensbury Hotel, will help Michael pay for the paramedic program at Hudson Valley Community College, where he has enrolled for the fall.
Michael, the son of Rich and Lisa Spoerl of Queensbury, is one of the leaders in Barb Goodspeed WSWHE BOCES’ program. In addition to the school board’s award, Michael will receive the Gold Metal for Community Service at the SkillsUSA National Competition in June in Kansas City.
Michael volunteers with the West Glens Falls Fire Department and Emergency squad. He expects to sit for the Emergency Medical Technician exam soon.
“It’s nice to be recognized,” said Michael.
