Several students raised concern about another student riding the bus who had made some concerning social media comments the evening before. That student had been carrying a guitar case which was perceived by other students to be a safety threat.
We immediately coordinated with the component school district to assess the situation. The bus was met by our school resource officers, and the Washington County Sheriff’s office was contacted to investigate. It was determined by all agencies that there was no immediate threat to the safety of students and staff on our campus. Counselors were on hand to assist those students who may have felt unsafe over the situation.
Please understand WSWHE BOCES takes these matters very seriously and is committed to keeping students and staff safe. We want our school community members to feel safe and to report concerns to a trusted adult. We are grateful to the students who alerted us to the concern and to the sheriff’s office who responded so swiftly. Remember: “if you see something, say something.”
