Throughout the trip, students participated in industry tours and hands-on learning experiences focused on agriculture, forestry and animal science. Stops included the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State, Dickinson Cattle Company in Ohio, the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Blue Grass Stockyards and Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky. Each visit provided students with an up-close look at real-world career opportunities in forestry, environmental science and agricultural fields.
The National FFA Forestry Career Development Event is designed to prepare students for careers in forestry and natural resources. Participants identify tree species, assess forest health, use forestry tools, study sustainability and management practices and apply safety and industry standards to real-world forestry challenges.
The team earned notable recognition at the national competition, including:
- Two individual Silver Emblem awards: Braydon Pitts and Cobi Walter
- Two individual Bronze Emblem awards: Jacob Powhida and Thomas Williams
- A Team Bronze Emblem
WSWHE BOCES extends its appreciation to Walter Chandler Forestry Services, Lee Thomas Trucking and Kalme Logging for their sponsorship and support of the students’ trip.
