The ceremony honored 13 graduating seniors representing component school districts across the region. Airehs Jackson led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Throughout the ceremony, speakers reflected on the resilience students demonstrated during their educational journeys.
“You’ve done hard things and you’ve gotten better and stronger because of it,” said Laura Schaefer, principal for special programs at the Myers Center. “You’ve learned from your mistakes, built relationships for support and encouragement, and developed the confidence to move forward. Those qualities will continue to serve you well.”
District Superintendent Dr. Turina Parker encouraged students to believe in their abilities and embrace the qualities that make them unique.
“Trust in your potential and know that your individuality is your strength,” Parker said. “Life will present challenges, but every challenge is an opportunity to grow.”
As part of the ceremony, Schaefer shared reflections written by students about their experiences at WSWHE BOCES. Many highlighted the value of real-world job skills, participation in Career and Technical Education programs and the relationships they built during their time at the Myers Center.
Students also offered advice for future classes. Alicia Sheloski encouraged students to “get your work done.” Airehs Jackson advised, “don’t drop out.” Matthew Sleight emphasized the importance of accepting help when it is offered.
