District Superintendent of Schools

The District Superintendent of Schools has a dual set of responsibilities – serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the BOCES and as the regional representative of the New York State Commissioner of Education.

As Chief Executive Officer of the WSWHE BOCES, Turina Parker plans, administers and supervises a cooperative service for 31 districts in its supervisory area, plus the BOCES, whereby districts operate efficiently to educate a wide segment of the population without discrimination. 

As a representative of the State Education Department, Dr. Parker is responsible for providing leadership to school districts, often helping to interpret and implement New York State Education laws, as well as the rules, regulations and initiatives of the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education. She also oversees the educational programs and services provided to public school districts in the five-county region.

The District Superintendent maintains a list of individuals, retired and non-retired, who wish to be considered for interim positions in the WSWHE BOCES supervisory area.
