112 students on 19 teams from 13 school buildings across 7 school districts spent their Saturday creatively solving problems and performing for judges at the 2024 Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Competition on March 9, 2024 at the Glens Falls High School, Glens Falls, NY.

March 12, 2024 – As SoBro Conservancy of Saratoga began transforming a barren former gas station site at 209 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs into a vibrant green space, it needed a shed. Since education is a key part of the nonprofit's mission, it didn’t want to just buy a shed. It wanted young people to have a stake in its regreening project. SoBro wanted students to gain experience by building the shed and contacted the WSWHE BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) division to assist. In spring 2023, John Coffinger and his construction trades students at the Southern Adirondack Education Center in Hudson Falls signed on as partners for the project and began work on the 8'x12' shed. Students from this year’s class continued when they arrived in the fall. Construction was completed just a couple of weeks ago.

The School to Work transition program serves students aged 17 to 21 years old who are getting ready to exit from the school setting. This community-based program draws together area businesses and educators to prepare special needs students for employment and independent living through internships. For the past few weeks, three School to Work students have been working at the Wilton Applebee’s gaining new skills. They were recently recognized for their excellent work ethic.

March is International Women's Month and we are celebrating Women in the Trades. Throughout the month, WSWHE BOCES will be holding events and highlighting current students and opportunities available to prospective students in the trades.

Early College Career Academy students from the New Media program and Business and Entrepreneurship program, took part in an industry challenge with PUSH Apparel on a t-shirt design and marketing campaign.

February 5-9, 2024 is SkillsUSA Week. In recognition of this special week, WSWHE BOCES is thrilled to celebrate two state level SkillsUSA officers who are making a big impact: Zachary Kramar, NYS SkillsUSA President, from North Warren CSD and Mikayla Linehan, NYS SkillsUSA Area 3 Vice President, from Queensbury UFSD.

February 1, 2024 - The culinary prowess of the students from the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES Culinary Arts program will be on full display at the 25th Annual Chowderfest in Saratoga Springs. The event, scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the F. Donald Myers Education Center, 15 Henning Road in Saratoga Springs, promises to be a celebration of delectable culinary creations.

January 19, 2024 - WSWHE BOCES administrators and board members, chief school officers from 31 school districts along with their board presidents, elected officials including Ashby, Stec, Simpson, Tedisco, Walsh, Walczyk, Woerner and business leaders, gathered for the 2024 Legislative Breakfast at the Southern Adirondack Education Center in Hudson Falls on January 19. The WSWHE BOCES Chief School Officers (CSO) Advocacy Committee outlined their 2024 legislative priorities which include: increased state support for career and technical education, school workforce development issues, increase in the spending limit for capital outlays, school aid and transitioning to zero emissions buses.

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, the Early College Career Academy (ECCA) hosted a Career Exploration and Internship Event at SUNY Adirondack. Students from all four ECCA programs were in attendance to spend time with local industry partners learning about internship possibilities, future career opportunities and the diverse work each business offers.

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest,” said New York State Department of Education Commissioner Betty Rosa on January 10. The Commissioner quoted Benjamin Franklin as the State Education Department released a new series of literacy briefs that focus on the science of reading at a statewide event hosted by WSWHE BOCES which was a local site.
