Remote Screening Process for Referrals

Student referrals are received from districts for placement in WSWHE BOCES Exceptional Learners Division Programs on a continuous basis. To address the need to place students in programs during the COVID-19 school closure, the following process will be utilized.
  • Referrals should be submitted from districts using the fillable Referral Form and submitted to [email protected].
  • Referrals will be processed by date of receipt
    • Component District Referrals will have priority
  • Referrals will be sent to the review team within 2 days of receipt by the principal. Review team will provide feedback to the principal within 3 days of receipt.
  • A Remote Screening Meeting will be scheduled with the district, parent and student within 2 days of receiving feedback from the Review Team
  • Before the conclusion of the Remote Screening Meeting, a tour of the center-based program will be scheduled for the parent and student with the administrator
  • A determination will be made within 3 days of the tour.
    • On occasion additional information is needed from outside agencies which may cause a delay in the determination.
 
Remote Screening Meetings
  • Parent(s)/guardian and student need to participate in Remote Screening Meeting
  • District CSE needs to participate
  • BOCES participants will include: Program Principal, Teacher, Social Worker, School Counselor (secondary programs), Related Service Provider (as needed)
  • BOCES will try to schedule meetings by district

Program Tour
  • Tour with the principal is required with parent(s)/guardian and student.
  • Social Distancing will be followed
  • Protective masks will be worn.
