Supporting Special Olympics

During the week of October 18, 2021, the SAEC Culinary Arts & Hospitality and Hospitality & Human Services Service Level Team collaborated with the NYS Special Olympics committee to help make their event a success.

Special Visit with Commissioner Rosa, Regent Ouderkirk, & Sr Deputy Commissioner Baldwin

On Thursday, October 14, 2021, Dr. Betty A. Rosa, Commissioner of Education & President of the University of the State of New York, joined the WSWHE BOCES for a tour of Whitehall Central School District, Early College Career Academy, and Queensbury High School. Beverly L. Ouderkirk, NYS Regent; Dr. James Baldwin, Sr. Deputy Commissioner for Education and other team members from the Commissioner’s office joined as well.

Staff Spotlight Awards

At the October 13, 2021 WSWHE BOCES Board of Education meeting, Dennis Flynn, Michelle Maddalla and Tony Muller were each awarded a Staff Spotlight Award.

Trucks & Treats Puts A New Twist on Trick or Treating

Children love big trucks and candy. This year, students in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Early Childhood Education program and SkillsUSA at WSWHE BOCES are putting a spin on Halloween. Your average trunk-or-treat event includes decking out cars in the holiday spirit. On October 30, from 2pm to 5pm, trucks from local businesses will roll down to the F. Donald Myers Education Center at 15 Henning Rd in Saratoga Springs, gather in the parking lot, and give out treats to the public. So dress up in your best Halloween costume and enjoy the afternoon. Additional food items will be available for purchase.

Sixteen Beds Built for Children in Need

On Friday, September 17, 2021, Construction Trades students at the F. Donald Myers Center in Saratoga Springs, worked with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP)® - NY, Mechanicville chapter to build sixteen beds for children who need them in the area.

WSWHE BOCES Kicks-off Women In Trades Initiative

According to research conducted by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, 2018 report, less than 3.4% of construction trade workers are women. That number is comparable with other SKILLED TRADES when it comes to percent of women.
