The mission of the WSWHE BOCES Wellness, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity (W.I.D.E) Initiative is to provide accessible education programs and services that accelerate social, emotional, & academic achievement while boosting career mobility & enhancing well-being for diverse communities.

On March 31, 2023, Nestled among the Bond in Motion exhibit and other iconic cars, approximately 50 high school juniors in the WSWHE BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) auto body repair and automotive technology programs participated in a speed mentoring event sponsored by Saratoga Automobile Museum.

With more than 50 guests in attendance, the Women in Trades event on March 30, 2023 was another step toward building awareness and growth opportunities for women to work in the trades.

More than 100 Career and Technical Education students from the Southern Adirondack Education Center, F. Donald Myers Education Center and Early College Career Academy at WSWHE BOCES participated in dozens of competitions at the 2023 NYS SkillsUSA Area 3 competition (Regional Competition) on March 16, 2023.

Early College Career Academy (ECCA) hosted a Women in Trades event on March 15, 2023. Nearly 100 guests, female-identifying students from grades 7-10 and chaperones from five area school districts were in attendance. The event took place on the SUNY Adirondack Queensbury campus.

Important message from the WSWHE BOCES District Superintendent

On March 13, 2023, more than 475 students on 65 teams from 18 local school districts competed in the 2023 “Battle of the Books.” This event, which is coordinated by the WSWHE BOCES School Library System, was held at SUNY Adirondack.

Who will build it? This is a question area construction and skilled trades people have been asking for years as the skills gap grows in the Capital Region and nationally.


On March 3, 2023, the Capital Region Workforce Development Coalition, in partnership with WSWHE BOCES and the New York State School Counselor Association (NYSSCA) gathered over 75 school counselors from area school districts to discuss non traditional post secondary pathways in the trades and how collectively they can provide more opportunities to students.
